$55.2 $80 In stock

A luxe book of documentary drawings by Suzanne Forbes, whose work has graced the walls of Other Nature over the years! This compendium of her work documents 20 years of intimate portraits made live in San Francisco & Berlin fetish clubs and drag shows.

For twenty years, Suzanne used skills built as a TV courtroom artist to live-draw LGBTQ+ and kink community. Now at the end of her working life, Suzanne wants to preserve and share these portraits of cherished folx, many marginalized and often erased. Your 8.5"x 11" (like A4), 200+ page hardcover copy of "Demimonde" includes color and b&w drawings of SF and Berlin kinksters, drag artists, and trans beloveds!

About the author artist, in her own words:

"I grew up in NYC, lived in the Bay Area for 18 years, and immigrated to Berlin in 2015. I was trained as an artist at the Art Students League, Parsons, The School of Visual Arts and the Minneapolis College of Art & Design.

When I was young I was a courtroom artist for CBS and CNN and a penciller for DC Comics on Star Trek.

In my late 30s, I found my praxis of being a live drawing chronicler of alternative culture in the Bay Area. I began using my drawings to record events like Folsom St Fair, the Edwardian Ball, and queer porn shoots at Kink.

Now I make documentary art of queer culture in Berlin, drawing from live events (or live-streams, the last two years!) like drag shows, fetish balls and Berlin Burlesque Week."

Avery ★★★★★

The paper stock feels substantial, and the way her live portraits capture a person’s essence in a few swift lines is remarkable. I’ve already spent hours flipping through the 20-year span of work.

Matthew O. ★★★★★

I was blown away by the weight and quality of the paper stock—it really makes the documentary portraits pop. The book captures intimate, live-drawn moments that feel so alive, perfect for anyone who loves raw artistic expression.

Jacob Z. ★★★★★

The way she captures people mid-conversation is incredible—I keep flipping back to the portraits made live in that intimate setting, and the book feels substantial enough to be a keepsake. It’s a beautiful, honest record of two decades of work, and I’m glad I finally added it to my shelf.
